How do I add customizations and recommendations to a product?
Adding options to your menu items is a great way to increase average order value and give guests a better experience.
Choose the right option type for your needs:
Add-ons:
Extras the guest can add to a specific product for an additional price.
Removables:
Ingredients the guest can ask to leave out.
Customizations:
Same as Add ons, but are reusable across products and have more flexibility. Can be built from scratch or based on existing products.
Recommendations:
Reusable groups of existing menu products suggested to the guest.
Add-ons
Use Add-ons on a product if no other products should have the same options. If you have other products that will use the same options, use Customizations instead.
- Go to Admin -> Menu -> Open the product you want to edit
- Scroll down to Add-ons
- Add options with a name and price
- Save the product

Removables
Removables are ingredients the guest can ask to leave out, such as onions or dressing. Like add-ons, they are configured directly on the product and are not reusable.
- Go to Admin -> Menu -> Open the product you want to edit
- Scroll down to Removable ingredients
- Add each ingredient the guest should be able to remove
- Save the product

Customization groups
Let guests add extra ingredients or select between different options. You create the group once and can reuse it across multiple products.
Create the group
- Go to Admin → Menu → Option groups
- Click Add new customization group
- Give the group an internal name and the question that appears when ordering
- Select the type that fits your use case:
- Multiple options — guests can select one or more extras to add to the product, similar to add-ons

- Only one option — guests can only choose one of the options presented, useful for choices like sauce or cooking level

- Multiple options multiple times — guests can select several of each option presented, for example number of glasses to a wine bottle product, number of chopsticks etc..

- Multiple options — guests can select one or more extras to add to the product, similar to add-ons
- Choose if this should be required or not, and if there should be a minimum and/or maximum number of selections required from the guest
- Add your options, either by entering a name and price, or by searching for existing products
- Save
Add the customization group to a product
Customization groups can only be added to products from the product list page.
- Go to Admin → Menu → Product List
- Select all the products that should have the customization
- Click Edit Selected -> Add option groups
- Search for and select the group
- Save

Recommendation groups
Suggest existing menu products to the guest alongside an item — for example, a drink or side dish with a main course.
Unlike customizations, recommended products are ordered as separate items and follow their own print setting. This means a recommended drink will print at the bar, not the kitchen.
Create the group
- Go to Admin → Menu → Option groups
- Click Add new recommendation group
- Name the group as you want it to appear when ordering
- Add the existing products you want to recommend
- Save the group

This image shows how it looks when editing (left) and when ordering (right).
Add the recommendation group to a product
Follow the same steps as for adding a customization group.
How does the printed tickets look?
Customization options print on the same ticket as the main item. If you want an option to print separately — for example drinks at the bar — use a Recommendation group.
